I wanted to share baby Korbin’s touching story with you.
“His condition was known as the “Transposition of the great vessels” where the aorta and the pulmonary artery are switched, so basically the heart is working backwards and pumping the blood the wrong way through the body. He was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital just a few hours after he was born. He had his open heart surgery when he was just four days old. They had to leave his chest open for four days to allow for swelling of the heart, and then he went back in to be closed up. All this time he was kept under sedation, so he was asleep for the first eight days of his life. It was very hard on both of us mainly because I was kept in the hospital because I developed pulmonary edema. So for the first week after he was born I was unable to even see him and Max was left going back and forth between the two hospitals. They let us hold him for just a few minutes before they transported him to Primary Children’s, but other than that we were unable to really do anything other than look at him for almost two weeks because he had so many tubes and wires hooked up to him. The good thing is that he has recovered very quickly. All the doctors have said that he did very well and that he looks better than a lot of other kids they see that have had this same problem. He is alive and very health now and I don’t think we could ask for anything more.”

I photographed Korbin when he was just 6 weeks old. Look how beautiful and happy he is!

When I took this picture I couldn’t stop giggling. I can’t believe how many wrinkles this baby has! I love it!

I took this picture of Jenni when she was expecting. She brought her new baby back for portraits as soon as she was born. I digitally imposed the new baby over the maternity image. Beautiful!
