On a personal note… I will be riding my bike 100 miles October 22, 2011 to help raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation of Utah.
One of my very best friend’s sweet daughter received a wish from Make A Wish. Here is their story…
Our little girl Clara was granted a wish through the “Make a Wish Foundation” when she was 2 1/2 years old. She was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer when she was 16 months. Clara loved the Disney characters so for her wish we went to “Disneyworld”. This was an amazing experience. The night before we left Clara was able to invite some friends to the park and Cinderella showed up with gifts for her trip.
The next morning we flew to Orlando. As we got off the plane there was a darling couple waiting for us to escort us to the car rental kiosk. There we were given a SUV for the week of our trip. We happened to go to Orlando the week of the hurricanes therefore we were unable to stay at the “Make a Wish Village” so we were given a suite at the Polynesian Resort. When we arrived in our room on Clara’s bed was a huge box filled with Princess dresses, wands, crowns, gloves and jewels. Clara couldn’t wait to try each dress on and pose in the mirror.
Every day when we would come home from the amusement park on Clara’s bed would be more presents. The Make a Wish foundation also gave us a generous amount of spending money so that Clara could have whatever she wanted.Clara was able to have one hour in the castle with every Disney character all to herself. You should have seen her face when she sat on Prince Charming’s knee.
We were also able to go to the “Make a Wish Village” and eat all our meals. Sometimes the children are too sick to leave the village so everything you can imagine is there such as an icecream parlor, merri-go-round, movie theater, toys, game room etc.
This was a dream come true! We have such wonderful memories of her and the memories we made on the make a wish trip are some of our most treasured.
I’ll never forget what the Make a Wish foundation did for Clara and the joy it brought to her during her intense chemotherapy treatments.
If any of you are not familiar with the foundation and all that it offers to children who are suffering from a life threatening illness, you should research what they do. You will be amazed at the personalized care that is given to each child and family member.
